Use of Generative AI Tools

Rengganis: Jurnal Pengabdian Masyarakat recognizes the increasing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, and similar technologies, in academic writing and community service activities. The journal supports their responsible, ethical, and transparent use under the following conditions:

  1. Permitted Use
Authors may use GenAI tools to improve language clarity, grammar, readability, translation, and manuscript formatting. GenAI must not be used to fabricate data, generate fictitious community service activities, manipulate findings, or produce unsupported conclusions. The use of GenAI as a tool, learning medium, or technology within community service programs is permitted when it constitutes a legitimate part of the activities and is appropriately described in the manuscript.

  2. Disclosure Requirement
Authors must disclose the use of GenAI tools during manuscript preparation in the Acknowledgement or Methodology section, specifying the tools used and their purposes. When GenAI is integrated into community service activities, its role, implementation, and relevant procedures must be clearly explained in the Methodology section.

  3. Authorship Responsibility
GenAI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors. Human authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, validity, and integrity of their manuscripts, including the authenticity of community service activities, reported findings, and conclusions. All AI-assisted content must be carefully reviewed and verified by the authors.

  4. Peer Review and Editorial Process
Editors and reviewers must uphold ethical standards when using GenAI tools. GenAI may be used for language assistance but must not replace independent scholarly judgment in evaluating manuscript originality, methodological quality, or the relevance and impact of community service activities. Editors and reviewers must also protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.

  5. Ethical Compliance
Any undisclosed, misleading, or inappropriate use of GenAI that compromises academic integrity, the authenticity of community service activities, or the reliability of reported outcomes may result in manuscript rejection, article retraction, or other editorial actions in accordance with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines.
